Keep the bugs out of your drinks with Uncle Sam hat straw covers.
It’s that time of year again. The heat is on and we are spending a lot more time outside. You will inevitably have drinks with straws and lids. No matter if the containers come from your own cupboards or a fast food establishment, if you are taking them outside you are going to attract the bugs of summer.
Protect the opening to your straw and the drink within with this quick straw cover.
I decided on an Americana version for this straw cover since summertime is full of patriotic holidays. Starting at the beginning with Memorial Day, then Flag Day, Independence Day and finally Labor Day, this straw cover will definitely be used.
This free tutorial is a quickie. Each hat will take you less than 20 minutes to complete.
Things You Will Need:
Red, white and blue worsted weight yarn, small amounts
E crochet hook
Optional: Star sequin and craft glue
ch = chain
st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
rnd = round
Uncle Sam Hat Straw Cover is crocheted in continuous rounds. Do not ch up or join to previous rounds unless instructed.
Dropped colors will hang inside hat until picked up again.
This crochet pattern does not include a gauge as it is not a pattern that requires a sized fit.
A star sequin was used to embellish Uncle Sam’s hat, but you could also use a charm, nail head, felt or a button.
