Like eating potato chips, I couldn’t stop at just one of these scrappy tags…
…or two…or three….well, you get the idea.
It started out with this pile of lace bits.
Then there was this bag of burlap scraps and white fabric pieces.
I began doodling with some letter stamps…
…and then started layering the pieces together.
I stitched with absolutely no rules. It was so freeing. Is that even a word? Yes, I say it is.
It may not have been necessary, but I stitched every layer separately.
I went back over stitches if the mood struck me. I loved the shabby, scrappy look.
When I finished one, I just couldn’t stop. I got into assembly-line mode and began cutting, snipping and fraying several stacks of tags. I realize now that even thought the laces were varied, the layout seems to be the same on all of them. Next time, (there will be a next time because I haven’t put any of the materials away) I plan to rearrange the layout.
Although I loved them, they didn’t look quite done once the bits and pieces were stitched together.
Out came the bobbles and doodads. (buttons and jewelry)
This batch was decorated with vintage brooches and earrings, but I’m thinking the next batch will be embellished with old buttons and charms.
For 2013 I am embracing the phrase “You never know if you don’t ask.”…So, if you enjoyed this post and this blog, would you consider following this blog?
